Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Dr. Kirk A. Churukian offers laser skin rejuvenation at his San Jose area practice in order to help patients refresh their complexions. Laser skin resurfacing, such as SmartSkin CO2 laser skin resurfacing and fractional resurfacing with a Fraxel® laser, has a simple goal: to replace damaged skin with new, fresh skin. Techniques for skin resurfacing have made enormous advances, allowing patients to achieve nearly flawless complexions. Additionally, photorejuvenation, or Intense Pulsed Light™ therapy, helps patients achieve smoother, younger looking skin as well.

SmartSkin  (C02) Laser Skin Resurfacing

In CO2 laser skin resurfacing, the laser’s powerful beam of light vaporizes the top layers of skin, causing deeper, healthier cells to replace the superficial cells that are vaporized. The heat from the laser stimulates collagen remodeling, making the skin tauter. The primary targets of laser resurfacing include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the upper lip, cheeks, and forehead
  • Loose eyelid skin
  • Crow’s feet
  • Pucker marks (smoker’s lines)
  • Frown lines
  • Loose skin around the neck and jowls
  • Acne scars

When laser resurfacing is performed, patients can typically return to normal activities within 10 days, with redness diminishing within 8 to 10 weeks. Laser resurfacing can restore skin to a healthy state, similar to that of skin that has not experienced sun damage or scarring. With proper sun protection and BOTOX® injections, results can last for years.

Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fractional resurfacing with a Fraxel® laser treatment will give you carbon dioxide resurfacing-like results without significant downtime. This treatment offers large improvements in skin texture, wrinkles and skin discolorations such as age spots and sun spots.

Fraxel® Laser treatment is performed in the office using only a topical anesthetic. It can be used on all skin color types, on the face, neck, hands, and body. After treatment, redness and swelling may occur for 24-48 hours. Two to five treatments may be needed for best results. If you are interested in this effective new technology, please contact our practice for a consultation.

Chemical Peels

During a chemical peel, a caustic solution is used to gradually remove top layers of skin. As the healing process progresses, new healthier-looking skin emerges. The peel may be applied to your entire face or just to certain regions, such as the crow’s feet area, around the eyes, or the vertical wrinkles around the mouth.

Peels are conducted in our office with no anesthesia or sedation. You will only feel a tingling or mild stinging sensation when the solution is applied to your face. After the procedure, you will generally be able to wear make-up and you will be able to drive.

Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins, also called telangiectasias, are tiny visible vessels within the skin. They develop most commonly on the face and legs. If you have spider veins and varicose veins, your varicose veins should be treated first. Varicose veins differ from spider veins in that they are larger (more than a quarter inch in diameter), are darker in color, and tend to bulge.

The two options for spider vein treatment are sclerotherapy and laser. They may be employed independently or in combination. In general, the best candidates for spider vein treatment are18 years of age or older, not pregnant or breastfeeding, in good mental and physical health, with no active medical conditions (e.g., hepatitis, AIDS, or other blood-borne diseases), and free from circulatory problems, heart conditions, or diabetes.
